The Arc of Washington County's Early Intervention Program is committed to promoting the development of children with delays or disabilities by assisting families and primary caregivers in meeting the special needs of these children, so that each child has the opportunity to grow and learn with his/her family and friends.  It is funded by the Tennessee Department of Education through a yearly grant agreement and serves children in Unicoi, Carter & Washington counties.  The DOE is responsible for providing on-going training to Early Intervention Specialists, as well as monitoring the program for quality assurance.

In order to be eligible for early intervention services, an infant or toddler (ages birth to 3 years) must meet Tennessee's definition or have a physical or medical condition that places him or her at high risk for delays.  If you have concerns about your child, the first step in determining eligibility involves making a referral to Tennessee's Early Intervention System (TEIS).  A referral can be made by contacting TEIS at 434-4401.  After the referral has been made, a TEIS Service Coordinator will meet with the family to determine eligibility.  Little Folks, then becomes involved as an early intervention service based on the needs of the family.
